Wow! It's been awhile since I blogged. Life got in the way, but I hope to be back to writing with some regularity. I decided to do the Lake Tahoe Iron Girl again this year, with the goal of destroying my time from last year. Unfortunately, my work's GIANT HUGE ANNUAL CONFERENCE BIGGEST EVENT OF THE YEAR moved to the week before the triathlon so I was not nearly as on top of my structured training.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">
I mountain biked (a lot), started swimming a couple of months earlier, went to yoga pretty frequently and ran <i>at least </i>three times in the two months before the triathlon. Mostly, I was confident that I could push myself a lot harder than I had the previous year. Because of a major change to the bike course (almost <b>twice</b> the elevation gain!), it was hard to compare times to the previous year, but I did end up beating my previous time and getting 10th in my division!</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">
Having learned from <a href="http://lynnb1984.blogspot.com/2011/09/iron-girl-lake-tahoe-race-report.html">last year</a>, we didn't show up mega-early, rented wetsuits, and wore giant fluffy socks. One of the things that I learned during my blogging break is that I am soy intolerant. Sometimes I forget to check things for soy in the ingredients. FYI, Clif Bars have soy, and I definitely regretted eating one pre-race. Ugh. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">

<div style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;">
I loved having a wetsuit! I could get in the water early, not freeze to death, and my legs felt so floaty! I did an open water swim race (800m) with my mom earlier in the summer, and it was really good prep for this. The swim felt good, and I was really glad I had started swimming earlier in the year this round.</div>

I stripped off the top half of my wetsuit, threw on my Keens, and started the loooong jog back to transition. Once I got there, I knew that I had to somehow get into my biking outfit, but I was slightly mentally frazzled. After a few seconds of dazed staring, I figured it out and got myself on ready and headed out on the bike.</div>

I was obviously not completely on top of my race prep this year, as I did not know the course had changed until the Friday before the race. Ooops! Instead of an out and back, there would now be two loops that involved going up and down the two big hills twice instead of once. The bike leg was where I knew I could really improve this year, so I pushed hard. I played leap frog with a couple of girls throughout the whole race which was great for helping me to push myself. The major downside of the two loop course (besides the leg-trashing hills) was that the participants were much less spread out, causing some traffic jams.</div>

I don't especially like running, so it is really hard to convince myself to go when I could be mountain biking instead. My goal was not to walk, which I achieved, though my shuffling was not much faster. It took until the halfway point to feel like I was doing anything more than slogging, and I definitely regretted my lack of running. I think pushing hard on the hilly bike also trashed my legs and contributed to my slow run. But hey, I finished and even was able to kick it a little bit in the end.</span></span></div>

I managed to go to yoga on Tuesday, and I'd planned to do some light ellipticalling, but forgot shoes. Oh, well. Judging by how I felt during yoga, cardio would have been a bad idea.<div><br /></div><div>It was great being up in Seattle, hanging with my family, eating the vegetarian Thanksgiving side dishes, and letting my mom buy me socks. For the third time in the year that I've lived in Tahoe. It was a serious upgrade this time, (and only $15 rent increase!) so hopefully it's the last time for awhile. Our new place is beautiful, furnished, has cable (!), has a garage, and we have the most adorable landlords of all time. They had cake and champagne for us when we signed the lease, and they picked us because we remind them of their daughters. I now have two awesome roommates instead of just one:</li></ul></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt17ZH2aPlxeedwyDePCf4NmVleo-aqdjqtAV4HtU4VaoDr3HVKhlOXHy2pWaBh4hzqk-x9p9tjHZpHjU_sp76b554pS7t4u5y20aan2fE8rBMxYLqKnIkKilfriwIuaoYq7B0GGb9/s1600/allison.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:left;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt17ZH2aPlxeedwyDePCf4NmVleo-aqdjqtAV4HtU4VaoDr3HVKhlOXHy2pWaBh4hzqk-x9p9tjHZpHjU_sp76b554pS7t4u5y20aan2fE8rBMxYLqKnIkKilfriwIuaoYq7B0GGb9/s320/allison.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676413380881406226" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Allison</div><div style="text-align: right;"><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOQlu09jUnvf2tOFj_4SnLC2l-eVmCBrMfEttIFII7Qpu9vuCe5pbCRsMw3ppCP-18b872mbYkot1z-Vl54-5upmgeKBmSsZ6ovyu8OfI5f6JD9kBvg2_-mTMj4E4hNiqZX_pODI1y/s1600/katie.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOQlu09jUnvf2tOFj_4SnLC2l-eVmCBrMfEttIFII7Qpu9vuCe5pbCRsMw3ppCP-18b872mbYkot1z-Vl54-5upmgeKBmSsZ6ovyu8OfI5f6JD9kBvg2_-mTMj4E4hNiqZX_pODI1y/s320/katie.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5676414176194925426" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">Katie</div><div style="text-align: left;"><ul><li>I think I am going to do <a href="http://www.tbfracing.com/events/realmtbtri.html">this triathlon</a>. But here goes the race report!<div><br /></div><div><b><i>Pre-Race</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div>Katie and I arrived at the Harvey's parking lot, at 6 am, definitely more early than we needed to be there, as transition didn't close until 7 am, and the first swim wave at 7:30. But we got everything set up, and had plenty of time to chill. (Literally, as it was pretty cold in the dark morning. My toes were definitely regretting my choice to wear flip flops.)</div><div><br /></div><div>Katie and I had made the decision not to wear wetsuits at the end of August, as we had been swimming in the lake all summer in swimsuits, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of renting, practicing with them, etc. I started getting nervous about this decision when it appeared that we were <i>literally the only ones</i> not wearing wetsuits. Ummm....</div><div><br /></div><div>As the group moved from the parking lot transition area to the beach where we would be swimming, we kept reassuring ourselves that we'd be fine without wetsuits- we'd only be in the water for ~10 minutes, the water was 65 degrees, we'd been in the lake since June in our bathing suits, etc. Luckily, as the start got closer, we started noticing other women only in swimsuits, or the sports bra/tri shorts combo I was wearing. They had been there all along, just hiding under their sweats, like I was.</div><div><br /></div><div>I set up my flip flops in the "shoe transition" outside of the beach. There was a fairly long jog back to the bike transition area on asphalt, so they had a little area we could leave our shoes so we didn't have to do it barefoot. After what felt like an eternity of standing on cold, wet sand, the first wave was off!</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>The Swim</i></b></div><div>Katie and my leg was the last to be sent off for the 400 m swim. With the wave starts, there were about ~80 women in my wave, so the swim wasn't too crowded. I started towards the middle of the pack on the outside, and angled in toward the first buoy. There wasn't too much jostling and I didn't get kicked at all. Yay!</div><div><br /></div><div>Katie and I planned to stick together for the race, but that proved pretty difficult in the swim leg, especially once we rounded the second buoy and the sun was in my eyes. The swim went really well. I'm glad I did so much open water swimming this summer. It definitely helped! Also, I totally didn't need a wetsuit. The water felt great!</div><div><br /></div><div>Swim 400 m: 10:41- 166/494</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>T1</i></b></div><div>Katie was out of the water pretty soon after me, so I waited by our shoes and we jogged up to transition together. She had put her down jacket back on, and I was just in a sports bra and my tri shorts, so the announcer made a funny comment about that. I took my time, put on my bike jersey, socks, shoes, helmet, sunglasses, etc. and ate some Cliff Blocks (which tasted like candy!)</div><div> and headed out on the road.</div><div><br /></div><div>T1: 10:01</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>Bike</i></b></div><div>The race had closed down the two middle lanes of Hwy 50 for us to ride on which was beyond awesome! I had thought that we were going to have to ride on the shoulder. The ride definitely had some tough hills, but I had the local advantage of riding the route all summer so I knew it really well. Being in the last swim wave gave the advantage of having lots of people to pass. I would just focus on someone's back and pick them off, then move on to the next person. I definitely passed more people than I got passed by, but I <i>know </i>I could have pushed harder on the bike. This is my only disappointment in the race. </div><div><br /></div><div>When I got about a mile from the finish, I started to freak out that I would forget to clip out. I don't know why I panicked about that, but I did. When I got close to transition, I clipped out, but I probably did so waaaaaay before I needed to.</div><div><br /></div><div>Bike 24 k: 54:16- 215/494</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>T2</i></b></div><div>Staying together on the bike leg proved too difficult, and I got ahead of Katie somewhere around mile 2 or 3, so I hung around in transition so we could start the run together, also, because I promised to yell at her to remember to clip out, as she'd only learned to ride in clipless shoes the week before. I changed into my running shoes, and gulped some Gatorade, as I didn't drink at all during the ride. Ooops!</div><div><br /></div><div>T2- 7:15</div><div>Fun fact: This was the Third Slowest Overall T2! </div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>Run</i></b></div><div>This was <i>by far</i> the leg I was most proud of. I am not a runner. I don't especially love running. I am slow. I had only done about 75% of my training runs this summer. But the run went so well! Katie and I started off pretty slow, chatting about the beer and cheese we would be eating shortly, and how usually we were just now waking up for bagels and coffee at this point on a Sunday. I slowly kicked it into higher gear, and kept picking off and passing people ahead of me. The course was two loops, so it was slightly demoralizing to see the "2 miles" sign and realize that I'd only run about a mile. At one point, we saw our friend Reina, who was on her second lap and bounding like a gazelle. The course was pretty flat, with only one hill (that we had to do twice, argh) and was mostly shaded, which was nice. </div><div><br /></div><div>Finally, I came around the corner (for the second time) where the first lap people split off from the finish line people. I ran a little farther and saw the "3 mile" sign and kicked it into higher gear. I came around the corner and sprinted towards the finish line. I heard the announcer say, "...<b>Lynn B., from South Lake Tahoe, and she signed up for this triathlon after drinking 6 beers!</b>" Apparently, (after drinking the aforementioned beers) that is what I put as my "interesting fact" when I signed up! Ha!</div><div><br /></div><div>Run 5 k: 31:22- 166/494</div><div>This is totally awesome because I usually run at about a 10 m/mi pace, so it was amazing to see I'd run that fast at the end of a triathlon! I must be getting close. After arriving in Mammoth Lakes, I got the key to the condo we were renting, hit up the grocery store for some frozen cheese pizza (that I covered in artichokes, olives, spinach & pineapple) and sat in the slightly sketchy hot tub for a long, long time while reading trashy fitness magazines.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">
<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">The next day we headed out bright and early to go biking at Mammoth Mountain Resort. We started off with a fairly easy blue run called Brakethrough that connected to a really easy trail into town called Downtown. When I came to Mammoth last year, Downtown was the only trail that was open. It was fun to see how much I've improved in the last year, as Downtown was super easy for me this time, though I think the trail crew had smoothed out some corners to make it even easier. </span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">
<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">At this point, the boys ditched me to ride more difficult trails, which I was fine with, as I really enjoy riding by myself. My confidence up from success on Brakethrough, I tackled Flow, an "advanced" trail. I nailed some technical features that I didn't think I could, and, confidence flowing, I hit my first two foot drop. I hit a couple more drops successfully, but then...I misjudged something and felt myself going face first over my handle bars.</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">
<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span">I've kind of gone over the bars before, but this was definitely my first over-the-bars face plant. My first thought after sitting up was "If I wasn't wearing a full-face helmet, I'd definitely be missing some teeth." I dragged myself and my bike to the side of the trail to recover, and I took advantage of the break to take some pictures.</span></div>

I picked myself up, dusted myself off (quite literally, I was filthy) and rode the trail down to the shuttle pick up. I decided to do one more ride that day, and I don't think I could have managed anymore. I kept making stupid mistakes (like misjudging how far tree branches stuck into the trail, and running into them) due to how tired I was. I let the guys know that I was done and hung out in the village waiting for them to finish.</div><div>

Off the Top was not my favorite trail, as, until I relaxed, I was scared that I was going to fall off the side of the mountain, and, when I got over that fear, the trail itself was kind of boring. But totally worth it for the views:</div><div>

<br /></div><div>Between <a href="http://lynnb1984.blogspot.com/2011/08/is-friendship-crime.html">KJW's wedding</a> and my work putting on our biggest event of the year (a 160+ person, 2 day conference and a 125+ item auction), I neglected both my blog and my tri training for a couple of weeks. But the conference is over, and I celebrated with too many Tecate Pluses and poor decision making.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Here's what my training looked like:</div><div><b>Week 11: </b>22 minute run, 29 minute swim, 3 hours of dancing.</div><div><b>Week 12: </b>33 minute run, 19 minute run, 2 hour bike, 15 minute ride of shame.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>But this week is a new week, and I am already off to a better start. On Wednesday, I did a real brick (10 mile bike, 2 mile run) and yesterday, I ventured out for my first open water swim with Katie and Christa. We swam from Katie's office's private beach (jealous? I am.) and swam about 400 m to a pier, treaded water for awhile, swam back and then did a short loop around a moored sailboat for about 1000 m total.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Open water swimming in Lake Taco is much more difficult and choppy than Lake Padden or <a href="http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/eap/lakes/wq/docs/lkdavpe1.html">Davis Lake</a>, but we survived, and I made the decision not to rent a wetsuit for the race.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Unrelated to anything, here is a picture of me and Scott, my co-wedding officiant grinding during Kelly & Drew's reception:</div>

Epic by my standards at least. I didn't mention it was an accidental epic bike ride. We knew that there were wineries within a couple miles of our campsite. We didn't realize just how much elevation change there was in those couple of miles.<div>
<br /></div><div>We got advice from the local working the campground. I'm guessing she is not a cyclist. She told us that we could go two ways. One was short and steep. The other way was flatter and a "little" longer. We chose the latter. We chose wrong.</div><div>
<br /></div><div>Here's the map and elevation profile for the climb portion of our ride:</div><div>
<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioMsRgeAXz6nXH8QyQPxuVSCNhyGHzS2OEtIlDYzeR_AmRTJgn4JgQ23DvXZkQ8Nrx3fCSg6cBiktoodqDCw7rRnlzRNXYY4kg_NupUdVx7zqc5lqIiYqNMKAhd_IOvODslVwEsIlN/s1600/coloma+climb+3.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioMsRgeAXz6nXH8QyQPxuVSCNhyGHzS2OEtIlDYzeR_AmRTJgn4JgQ23DvXZkQ8Nrx3fCSg6cBiktoodqDCw7rRnlzRNXYY4kg_NupUdVx7zqc5lqIiYqNMKAhd_IOvODslVwEsIlN/s400/coloma+climb+3.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638588263091224418" /></a>
<br /></div><div>In case this is too blurry to read, that's about 1,100 feet of elevation gain in a little less than 4 miles. Most of us were on mountain bikes.</div><div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">If we had gone the shorter, steeper way, this would have been our elevation profile:</div>
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEholAuRyEZ7tFtOBNdKXGBcG9QpN5jM1rZZY91_qyBSx8ZOgrhDc5jf_GCBXL9UXvtTa06GWHXDJi60TdoNbaGWOv3l2ugSNutBGMj6hmhQQ95azeNqc92p-QmBvjGtVTJLmRbBLViq/s1600/coloma+climb+4.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEholAuRyEZ7tFtOBNdKXGBcG9QpN5jM1rZZY91_qyBSx8ZOgrhDc5jf_GCBXL9UXvtTa06GWHXDJi60TdoNbaGWOv3l2ugSNutBGMj6hmhQQ95azeNqc92p-QmBvjGtVTJLmRbBLViq/s400/coloma+climb+4.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638591812721504034" /></a><div>That's 600 feet of elevation gain in a little under two miles. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>Instead, we did nearly double the elevation gain and more than double the miles. We are such bad asses! Even though we worked way harder than expected, it was still a great ride. Everybody made it, there were no casualties, and only one flat tire. And there was wine at the end. Success!</div><div>
<br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3uBNQy_haU0K5G6g2GYzHgNmhN2WKkuYUcrrjVppCRQfu4Yk1D0HlBkFv1PFN0ldkNNPICRhPCOAiywQCoOawbK24o7SUisYAP8DYjPMxtrsyN72-h6H6sZIxe0T1x89L-uea_9RI/s1600/Picture+266.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3uBNQy_haU0K5G6g2GYzHgNmhN2WKkuYUcrrjVppCRQfu4Yk1D0HlBkFv1PFN0ldkNNPICRhPCOAiywQCoOawbK24o7SUisYAP8DYjPMxtrsyN72-h6H6sZIxe0T1x89L-uea_9RI/s400/Picture+266.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638593233239564402" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">My crazed smile suggests that I think I'm a lot closer to the top than I actually was at the time.</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Since I hate the feel of ultra-padded bike shorts, I usually bike in my tri-shorts. For this ride, I wore my tri-shorts under some neon yellow-green running shorts (to match my safety yellow sports bra).</div><div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div><div>It was like an all-natural ice bath. We also pretended to be salmon and tried to swim upstream.</div>
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikKKWRAuqGb3OItHBfcBin6_jnGINVK-YkVmer4bD5MpREnmfxg0BDHOlu04RHYu_waPHeUc-THStSMwxDfSMAYYKgi65THtNhN6RL-I57FoAPUj0nkqb7KlWEymRiilLIKV7KkXdK/s1600/river.JPG" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 338px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikKKWRAuqGb3OItHBfcBin6_jnGINVK-YkVmer4bD5MpREnmfxg0BDHOlu04RHYu_waPHeUc-THStSMwxDfSMAYYKgi65THtNhN6RL-I57FoAPUj0nkqb7KlWEymRiilLIKV7KkXdK/s400/river.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5638597653276455682" /></a><div>Verdict: Tri-shorts* are great on bike and in the water, but a little muffin-toppy. </div><div>
<br /></div><div>* The tri-shorts are the Pearl Izumi <a href="http://www.pearlizumi.com/publish/content/pi_2010/us/en/index/products/women/tri/apparel/pro_shorts.-productCode-0427.html#027">Women's Tri Short</a>. I got mine at the outlet in Lake Taco. They were 60% off because the logo was in the wrong place and therefore, irregular. Deal! I liked the black ones so much for biking that I went back and bought the gray as well.</div>Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08349591229303430562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8082459313172831734.post-82505073236974190242011-08-08T10:24:00.000-07:002011-08-08T11:36:08.977-07:00Camping Under a Bridge<div>Ingredients for a perfect weekend:<div>

Ooops. Luckily, I wasn't meeting anyone at the pool today.</div><div><br /></div><div>I woke up again a little before 7, and I realized that I had <i>plenty</i> of time to go swimming if I forced myself out of bed. So I did. </div><div><br /></div><div>Since I was running late, I drove to the pool instead of biking. The road to the pool was closed. The intersection was blocked off. I drove to the next street, hoping the road would connect. It didn't neither did the next road. I drove around for at least 8 minutes, trying to find my way in. </div><div><br /></div><div>I headed back home and considered giving up. But I didn't! I threw my stuff in my backpack, jumped on my bike, and took a shortcut through the campground, hoping this way wasn't blocked either.</div><div><br /></div><div>It wasn't! And now I know a bike shortcut to the pool! It was probably faster than driving, even.</div><div><br /></div><div>The extra 50 minutes between 6:30 and 7:20 am made the pool a more pleasant place to be. I had my own lane for most of the time, but it started getting crowded towards the end of my workout.</div><div><br /></div><div>1,100 yards, 30 minutes, and a definite sense of accomplishment!</div>Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08349591229303430562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8082459313172831734.post-73226182890987784112011-08-01T10:33:00.000-07:002011-08-01T11:07:28.579-07:00Triathlon Training - Week 9<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; ">Here's how triathlon training went for the week:</div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><br /></div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; ">Monday:</div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><i>Goal: </i>17 minute swim, 35 minute bike</div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><i>Accomplished:</i> 40 minutes of <a href="http://lynnb1984.blogspot.com/2011/07/work-to-workout-quick-change.html">stand up paddle boarding</a>. This swim was amazing. As much as I like starting my day with a workout (aside from waking up at 6:15), swimming on Saturday at 11:00 am was awesome. The water was warm, the sun was out, there was a hot guy in the lane next to me, and I didn't have to wake up early. My original plan was to run before I swam, but I hit the snooze button a few too many times to make that happen. My running was nearly derailed by laziness, laundry, and hot weather. I knew that if I didn't go on Saturday, my second run would not get done, so I forced myself out the door. Of course, I did not regret it, even a little.</div></div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><br /></div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; ">Sunday:</div><div style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: Georgia, Utopia, 'Palatino Linotype', Palatino, serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; "><div><i>Goal: </i>29 minute run</div><div><i>Accomplished:</i> I went up to Northstar and biked from about 11 am to 3 pm. It was so much fun, but I am definitely sore and tired today. I forgot how much work it is to ride from the top of the mountain to the bottom. </div><div><br /></div><div>This was a very successful week for triathlon training. I actually got all of my minutes in! I only did two bike workouts instead of three, but one was all day, and I bike commuted pretty much everywhere this week, so I think that works out. I should definitely be focusing on my running in the coming weeks, as it's by far my weakest leg.</div><div><br /></div></div></span>Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08349591229303430562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8082459313172831734.post-31946927091660118232011-07-29T13:26:00.000-07:002011-07-29T15:53:27.292-07:00Wedding Fever<div>I dropped an RSVP in the mail today that confirms I will be attending 4 weddings in 5 weeks. As wedding #1 is fast approaching, I realized that I need to figure out what I am wearing to all these weddings. Of course, all of them are very different types of weddings, so I can't exactly wear the same outfit to all four.<div><br /></div><div><b>Wedding #1:</b></div><div>I will be performing this wedding will be at a farm in Leavenworth, so this outfit is probably the most important. While I want to look awesome (outshine the <a href="http://kellyjeanwalden.blogspot.com/">bride</a>, if possible), the most important thing is the ability to dance the night away, not sink into the ground, and to not fall over while in front of all the guests. This is what I'm thinking:</div></div><div><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBm3txr9lm1XnTeJl-pjYqjYMURq53ILtD-t0iry-l9pPT8wVh3ldrNiGEaBln5n3f8OFQsUA974hm2k9ha_O1waR5jLWmkkCg4TsmyVBTDV51j-iU-cbH_kGkd0GFtbtEIYvjGloo/s1600/patagonia+dress+accessories.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 343px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBm3txr9lm1XnTeJl-pjYqjYMURq53ILtD-t0iry-l9pPT8wVh3ldrNiGEaBln5n3f8OFQsUA974hm2k9ha_O1waR5jLWmkkCg4TsmyVBTDV51j-iU-cbH_kGkd0GFtbtEIYvjGloo/s400/patagonia+dress+accessories.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634878542122895426" /></a><div><a href="http://www.6pm.com/product/7594201/color/101615">Dark grey Patagonia dress</a>, <a href="http://www.6pm.com/born-mico-gold-metallic">gold flat shoes from Born</a>, <a href="http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog_name=FOREVER21&category_name=acc_jewelry&product_id=1000024257&Page=1">"gold" F21 earrings</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Wedding #2</b></div><div>This wedding will be at an art gallery in Pasadena, and, I'm guessing, much fancier than wedding #1. No Patagonia dresses here. I'm not sure what I'm going to wear to this wedding. I have a gorgeous pink and purple silk Betsey Johnson dress that I might wear. It's not exactly the most <i>forgiving</i> dress in the stomach area, (ie food babies are extremely apparent) so I should probably have some sort of back up option in case of puffiness. Also, it's really hard to match shoes to it.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Wedding #3</b></div><div>I like to call this wedding the "It's a Small World After All" wedding, because one of my best friends from undergrad is marrying my ex-boyfriend's sister. The wedding is in a church, and I get to ride a ferry to get there. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm thinking this <a href="http://www.6pm.com/free-people-petticoat-lace-skirt-ivory">Free People skirt</a> with a black top and brightly colored peep toe heels. </div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgc_z2e-KyEB5PI9SeROdx1jtadsUQSIflrRqfScwXAOvlPGxB2lwGpAXRYvcv8zrwG1EXFR8idvxWjDcd877xPbrXxMt93ZtWEWRzC4yvyaoAhiEY51gfuat70tj9OmbJztPVJoRa/s1600/lace+skirt+and+shoes.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 378px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgc_z2e-KyEB5PI9SeROdx1jtadsUQSIflrRqfScwXAOvlPGxB2lwGpAXRYvcv8zrwG1EXFR8idvxWjDcd877xPbrXxMt93ZtWEWRzC4yvyaoAhiEY51gfuat70tj9OmbJztPVJoRa/s400/lace+skirt+and+shoes.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634887311207620770" /></a><div><div>Is this acceptable? Can I wear a cream colored skirt to a wedding, or is that a faux pas? Unlike the mannequin, I will not be showing my stomach.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Wedding #4</b></div><div>This wedding is happening at a ski resort here in Lake Taco. There will be bbq and a blue grass band and then we are taking the after party to a nearby campground and staying there. Pretty casual, but hopefully filled with sexy bearded men.</div><div><br /></div><div>I think I'm going to wear this dress that I got at a thrift store for about $15 bucks. I hate running on the terribly uneven sidewalk next to a busy road, breathing in exhaust fumes from the hundreds of Escalades and Hummers that invade our town every weekend. But yesterday, I needed to pick up my roommate's car from the casino parking lot where she had parked to catch the airport shuttle at the ungodly hour of 3:30 am. I also needed to go for a run.<div><br /></div><div>I decided to kill two birds with one stone and run/walk the 3 miles to the casino and pick up her car. This is not the prettiest run in Tahoe.</div><div><br /></div><div>Actually, it didn't start out too bad:</div></div><div><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIzRxh9BtQ432BoMvpnmPuzxtNYy8e-KgVW9So8gIYM3sS2sodlDJcjsjFBYOo_2SGEWVw0JHQrFPF65kwtP_xcBpUUWTWo2zAFFGDlCZdgwTHKl15l7Ss_U4EgDSDlyQWj26cT0Vu/s1600/Picture+039.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIzRxh9BtQ432BoMvpnmPuzxtNYy8e-KgVW9So8gIYM3sS2sodlDJcjsjFBYOo_2SGEWVw0JHQrFPF65kwtP_xcBpUUWTWo2zAFFGDlCZdgwTHKl15l7Ss_U4EgDSDlyQWj26cT0Vu/s400/Picture+039.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634851239191358786" /></a><div style="text-align: center;">It was kind of hazy out, but still pretty.</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi41_7PoymjtVH2tS8yoEoKDZHoFcRgzv5QkWndeZ-b5q7_hsC-W9ltXGQqLZpey63OXA6zOi5CyU1cVwtvuqwLGvEHkKRoAKTjK_ka2XQMEqNvTQ7pTnCrHyupa_nrCOWZo3KlI4Jo/s1600/Picture+038.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi41_7PoymjtVH2tS8yoEoKDZHoFcRgzv5QkWndeZ-b5q7_hsC-W9ltXGQqLZpey63OXA6zOi5CyU1cVwtvuqwLGvEHkKRoAKTjK_ka2XQMEqNvTQ7pTnCrHyupa_nrCOWZo3KlI4Jo/s400/Picture+038.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634851234588401058" /></a><br /><div>But I quickly came to the less scenic, more exhaust heavy part of the run.</div><div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDt900WIa82hmsxOV6PIdmz4KxR9zdSNt0tXxQmuLeWy38HXNNA1YMm5QW0wYUnHNSoDUNTPHrxW-qt7WvE9h9Lby7mhHs2ooA58ZC6WHuB9ZkHFKQgqkY37SY3hRAOK5o_MipP19r/s1600/Picture+041.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDt900WIa82hmsxOV6PIdmz4KxR9zdSNt0tXxQmuLeWy38HXNNA1YMm5QW0wYUnHNSoDUNTPHrxW-qt7WvE9h9Lby7mhHs2ooA58ZC6WHuB9ZkHFKQgqkY37SY3hRAOK5o_MipP19r/s400/Picture+041.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5634850812730994738" /></a>I'm still <a href="http://lynnb1984.blogspot.com/2011/07/trail-brick-and-yet-another-bike.html">getting used to my Saucony Kinvaras</a> (and, let's face it, I haven't been running that much), so I decided to slow to a walk after about 2.25 miles, and walk the rest of the way.</div><div><br /></div><div>Casino signs up ahead! Luckily, this is not the PNW, where every third car is an Outback, and I found Allison's after only a few minutes of wandering. For the record, it's green. I'm 75% sure.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm enjoying my <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJgKJsMjMkIxxMC3oRkd6VT4yLaJRyathJdXS9jqISYg4DYSgOsaI5QhjVVCqJHQw6vgeJZsTEfp23aA2EISioEF2iGc7dEIAZ9Po3gqE9ZOKYx-cj6Mr4fNQ8fTS-MhD80mzRfdub/s1600/Picture+029.jpg">bright new shoes</a>, and, while I'm not sure if it's due to the new shoes, or running on cement instead of trails, my legs definitely felt sore in a <i>different</i> sort of way.</div><div><br /></div><div>After reading some <a href="http://www.runningoffthereeses.com/">very strong recommendations</a>, I'm also experimenting with running while listening to an audiobook instead of music. So far, I'm really liking it. I'm listening to the audiobook of World War Z, which <a href="http://lynnb1984.blogspot.com/2011/04/three-things-thursday-zombie-edition.html">I've already read and loved</a>. The audiobook version is amazing! (My dad told me it won some super prestigious audiobook award, and he is the king of audiobooks, so I'm sure he knows what he's talking about.) I would highly recommend it for running. What's more inspirational for running than thinking about hordes of zombies chasing after you?</div><div><br /></div></div>Lynnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08349591229303430562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8082459313172831734.post-66805487404721210832011-07-26T10:47:00.001-07:002011-07-26T11:39:29.584-07:00Work to Workout Quick Change<div>Sometimes, I want to leave work and be sweating it up as soon as possible. One easy way, make workout clothes part of your work ensemble. Here I am, in one of my more stylish work outfits (we are a <i>very</i> casual office)- a navy cardigan, black top, and lacy skirt. However, the black top, which is mostly hidden by my cardigan, is a Prana workout top, and (like most days) I am wearing a sports bra.</div><div><br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_jrtjxOllrbDlex8V58WeGZTsdhxTtk4E9IN6we0FrWPe3qD0FSsflK6faBUG6cBjI0pd91iGJdr3FNCQVELgw_POmzmtJXecekZUX3hiLleR0Xm6X4L-11htUc78AfPqohGdrBzb/s1600/Picture+017.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_jrtjxOllrbDlex8V58WeGZTsdhxTtk4E9IN6we0FrWPe3qD0FSsflK6faBUG6cBjI0pd91iGJdr3FNCQVELgw_POmzmtJXecekZUX3hiLleR0Xm6X4L-11htUc78AfPqohGdrBzb/s400/Picture+017.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633723648798471650" /></a>Two easy steps- remove the cardigan, switch the skirt for shorts and bam!
