I almost started my last post with "I was killing time looking at old facebook pictures", but I stopped myself. The reason I stopped myself- in The Phantom Tollbooth, the clock-dog, Tock, gets really upset when Milo uses the phrase "killing time". Since reading this, I can't use this phrase. I think my childhood reading may have had too large of an effect* on my psyche.

* Did I use effect/affect correctly here? I'm pretty sure I did.

Yes you did use it correctly, effect is a the consequence of an action or event, affect has to do with psychology or emotion, or when a person impresses a change of attitude in another person.
