Oh hey there blog

It's been awhile.

Between KJW's wedding and my work putting on our biggest event of the year (a 160+ person, 2 day conference and a 125+ item auction), I neglected both my blog and my tri training for a couple of weeks. But the conference is over, and I celebrated with too many Tecate Pluses and poor decision making.

Here's what my training looked like:
Week 11: 22 minute run, 29 minute swim, 3 hours of dancing.
Week 12: 33 minute run, 19 minute run, 2 hour bike, 15 minute ride of shame.

But this week is a new week, and I am already off to a better start. On Wednesday, I did a real brick (10 mile bike, 2 mile run) and yesterday, I ventured out for my first open water swim with Katie and Christa. We swam from Katie's office's private beach (jealous? I am.) and swam about 400 m to a pier, treaded water for awhile, swam back and then did a short loop around a moored sailboat for about 1000 m total.

Open water swimming in Lake Taco is much more difficult and choppy than Lake Padden or Davis Lake, but we survived, and I made the decision not to rent a wetsuit for the race.

Unrelated to anything, here is a picture of me and Scott, my co-wedding officiant grinding during Kelly & Drew's reception:

Is friendship a crime?

Well, I've successfully officiated a wedding. Here's a sneak peak:

Me, Scott- my coefficient, some stuffed animals, and a few fake trees.

Wedding Fever

I dropped an RSVP in the mail today that confirms I will be attending 4 weddings in 5 weeks. As wedding #1 is fast approaching, I realized that I need to figure out what I am wearing to all these weddings. Of course, all of them are very different types of weddings, so I can't exactly wear the same outfit to all four.

Wedding #1:
I will be performing this wedding will be at a farm in Leavenworth, so this outfit is probably the most important. While I want to look awesome (outshine the bride, if possible), the most important thing is the ability to dance the night away, not sink into the ground, and to not fall over while in front of all the guests. This is what I'm thinking:

Wedding #2
This wedding will be at an art gallery in Pasadena, and, I'm guessing, much fancier than wedding #1. No Patagonia dresses here. I'm not sure what I'm going to wear to this wedding. I have a gorgeous pink and purple silk Betsey Johnson dress that I might wear. It's not exactly the most forgiving dress in the stomach area, (ie food babies are extremely apparent) so I should probably have some sort of back up option in case of puffiness. Also, it's really hard to match shoes to it.

Wedding #3
I like to call this wedding the "It's a Small World After All" wedding, because one of my best friends from undergrad is marrying my ex-boyfriend's sister. The wedding is in a church, and I get to ride a ferry to get there.

I'm thinking this Free People skirt with a black top and brightly colored peep toe heels.

Is this acceptable? Can I wear a cream colored skirt to a wedding, or is that a faux pas? Unlike the mannequin, I will not be showing my stomach.

Wedding #4
This wedding is happening at a ski resort here in Lake Taco. There will be bbq and a blue grass band and then we are taking the after party to a nearby campground and staying there. Pretty casual, but hopefully filled with sexy bearded men.

I think I'm going to wear this dress that I got at a thrift store for about $15 bucks. I've already worn it to a wedding and my grad school graduation. Here is the classiest picture of me ever taken, at the aforementioned wedding, three glasses of wine deep during cocktail hour.

I am one classy lady.

I'll probably wear this dress with the gold shoes from the first wedding, and accessorize with a beer mug instead of a wine glass.

What do you think of my fashion options? Yes? No? Any good accessorizing tips? Tips for not being a hot mess (besides not drinking 3 glasses of wine during cocktail hour.)? Tips for hooking up with hottie groomsmen?

Three Things Thursday - Random Edition

1. In less than 12 hours, I will be leaving this:

For this:
And this:

And this:
And my favorite ladies.

2. My mom scanned some of her wedding pictures and sent me one.

Adorable, isn't it? I totally want to get married in the 70's.

3. Earlier today I walked in on a man peeing. Ew. No pictures of that.

What the h Netflix?

So I decided to try out one of the yoga workout on Netflix Instant today. Check out my recommendations:

Notice anything odd? Look at the category- Quirky TV Shows Featuring a Strong Female Lead. And now the suggestion to the far right- Say Yes to the Dress.

Really Netflix? Really?

While I have occasionally been known to enjoy a Say Yes marathon or two, I strongly disagree that it is a. quirky and b. starring a strong female lead.

Female, yes. But strong? Not really. Are women spending thousands of dollars (often pressured by the salespeople to spend much more than their original budget) on their wedding dress(es)really what passes for strong female leads nowadays?

Sometimes I weep for the future.

In other news, my run outside yesterday was great and gorgeous and made me wish I had my camera. Also, I now have two blisters on the arch of my left foot from my inserts. Grr.

After being flabbergasted by Netflix suggestions, I tried out The Trainer's Edge: Long & Lean Yoga. I was not a fan. It was definitely a harder yoga workout than I am used to, and I think I've come to realize that I don't want to do yoga for conditioning. I was to do yoga for the mental benefits and flexibility and a little bit of strength. Mostly, I hate when yoga videos try to trick me into doing crunches by calling them "chest pulses". If I wanted to do crunches, I would do crunches.

I have bizarre dreams.

Here is a transcription of the dream I had last night.

Context: Kelly came back from Norway slightly
before Christmas, and we were hanging out. This is our exchange.

Lynn: Oh, hey Kelly, welcome back!
Kelly: Good to see you but I can’t hang out for very long.
Lynn: Oh, what are you doing?
Kelly: Scott and I are going shopping.
Lynn: What are you shopping for?
Kelly: Listen to this! Drew’s mom just called me and told me that when I come over there for Christmas, Drew is going to propose! So I am going shopping for wedding flowers.
Lynn: Oh, wow! Congratulations! When’s the wedding?
Kelly: Oh, not for like another year, and don't say anything because the proposal is supposed to be a surprise.
Lynn: Then why are you going flower shopping right now?
Kelly: Oh, Drew’s mom is going to hire a professional photographer to photograph the proposal, and she wanted me to pick out the flowers I want to have in the house, so the proposal pictures match the wedding pictures.

Kelly also informed me that the flowers were 'red, white, and blue, like the American flag'.
