Friday Fun Day

Today I'm wearing a glow in the dark wolf t-shirt. And it's not just any wolf t-shirt. There is a wolf, a bear, a moose, and an elk. It's pretty sweet.

My parents have been in town, so I haven't really been getting my sweat on the last couple of days. More eating good food, drinking good beer, and hanging out in the hot tub.

Last night in the hot tub, I met hot Dutch twins. One of whom was a fighter pilot in the Dutch air force. While I have a perfectly wonderful laser-building boyfriend, I may have cried myself to sleep at the thought that I missed my chance to move to the Netherlands, and spend my days eating gouda and frolicking around tulip fields.

But for all you single ladies, they will be in Lake Taco for the next couple of days...

Like this, but with more wooden shoes.

Mug intervention

New blog layout! Super exciting.

It's only a couple of days into February, and I did not start off the month very well on my fitness goals. Usually, I go straight from my office to the gym, which makes it that much harder to skip, but on Tuesdays, I usually go home and eat something before yoga. While living literally a stone's throw from Lake Taco has it's advantages , it is usually about three times as windy at my house than it is at work. By the time I got home, got into my yoga clothes, and ate some delicious hot soup, the wind had really started whipping. So I made the executive decision to sit on my ass in my yoga pants and watch Going the Distance. Normally, I dislike both chick flicks and Drew Barrymore, but I loved this movie! I love pretty much anything that features my secret boyfriend Charlie, but aside from that, I thought it was really funny. If you've ever been in a long distance relationship, you'll really appreciate it.

Yesterday, I did my short run that I skipped on Tuesday, and I did it a little faster than I normally run, which was great. Then I did 35 minutes on the elliptical, making up for missing my swim? Maybe? At least I use my arms on the elliptical? I did arms and abs as well, including the crazy plank which was hard.

I've started using the notepad app on my ipod to track my workouts, so if it takes me a couple days to get to the computer where I keep my spreadsheets, I don't have to try to remember what I actually did, mileage, weights etc.

So remember yesterday when I said that I had four mugs at my workstation? Actually, it was worse. The quick glance around that I took did not reveal 2 mugs that were hiding. That means I actually was hoarding six mugs. Six. Luckily, they were all clean. No gross moldy mugs hanging around.

Our office is across the street from a slightly sketchy thrift shop. Sometimes we take breaks and walk over there to see what exciting things we can find. It's where I found my awesome ski suit. I totally scored there today. Not only did we find a file cabinet for my new intern ($5!), I found a
couple of cute jars for my tea and quinoa, so they don't have to hang out in my cupboard in the bags they came in, constantly threatening to fall out and escape all over my kitchen floor. I also found a new travel coffee mug, because I stupidly left all of mine in my storage unit in Seattle, and, while I have not yet spilled coffee from a regular mug while driving, it's only a matter of time. I also bought a mug. My mug looks like the one above, but it says Lake Tahoe instead of Florida, and it has pine trees instead of palm trees. It's amazing. Hopefully, having one mug that is mine will prevent me from hoarding the office mugs.

Update from California

Good news everyone!

I called Josh, he is my soulmate, and he is this guy.

Thursday, November 20, 2008

I found my soulmate, his name is Josh.

I bought an economics text book from half.com, and it arrived today.

I was flipping through it, and, written in the margin, was "Josh's cell number" and a phone number.

The phone number was a Bellingham number.

Obviously, Josh is my soulmate.

IV

Dear Chuck Klosterman,

Please marry me. I generally don't want kids, but I'd totally have yours.

You don't have to buy me a diamond. I'll just buy myself one of these.

Let me know. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Lynn

My dad

I was talking to my dad on the phone yesterday. This is a very common occurence. Sometimes we talk multiple times a day. This is mostly because we have unlimited family minutes and jobs where much of our time is spent not doing anything. So, anytime one of us finds out something that the other one finds interesting, we call the other one. For example, yesterday I called my dad to tell him that Haggen bought the Larry's Market in Redmond and also that Errol Knight signed to play with the Bellingham Slam. He said, "Speaking of athletes...I saw that Jake Locker is playing baseball in Bellingham this summer."

I replied in the affirmative, and he went on to outline a plan. The superintendent at the school he teaches at is from Ferndale and knows the Locker family. My dad wants to give him my picture to pass on to Jake Locker, and then have me hang out at the Bellingham Bells games. To quote my dad, "Marrying Jake Locker would even be better than going to business school!"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha forever.

This is mostly funny because this is the last thing that you would ever expect to come out of my dad's mouth. He is constantly reminding me that I probably shouldn't get married until I am at least 35 (despite the fact he got married at 24), and whenever my mom asks if I'm dating anyone, he says, "Janet! It's PERFECTLY fine if she isn't dating anyone." Apparently, this deal seems too good to pass up. He's probably even pay for the wedding. (He once offered me $5000 if I promised to elope when I do get married.)

In this tribute to my dad post, I will list five important things that he has taught me:

5. B.E.E.F.: Balance, eyes, elbow, follow through. These are the four essentials for a good shot in basketball. While I am not a great basketball player, I do have a nice looking shot.

4. How to easily convert from Celcius to Farenheight in my head. This is especially useful since I mostly listen to Canadian radio. This is how you do it: you multiply the temperature in Celcius by 9/5 and add 32. "Hey!" you may think, "that's not easy!" Well, the secret is estimation. Let's say The Beat 94.5 tells you that the temperature is 19C. To figure that out, I would just say, "Well, 20C is pretty close to 19C." (My dad also taught me the importance of 'pretty close' in math.) 20 x 9/5 (reduce 20 to 4 and cancel the 5) is 36 + 32 is 68F. So you're off a few degrees. Whatever. This isn't analytical chemistry.

Sidenote: this may be why I did not do very well in analytical chemistry.

3. How to shoot a gun. When I was seven, I got a bb gun for Christmas. Mind you, I did not ask for a bb gun. I guess he just wanted me to be ready to inherit a small armory.

2. How to change a tire and the oil. I am rather uncoordinated and messy. If there is a slight possibility that a person could get dirty doing something, it's guarenteed that I will get dirty doing it. My dad said I had to change the oil in my car as part of the 'responsibility of driving'. I think he mostly just liked to laugh at me when I was entirely covered in old motor oil. Same with changing a tire. Les Schwab will put on or take off your snow tires for free. However, it's even freer to make your daughter do it as part of the 'responsibility of driving'. I have had to change a flat tire several times, and I was very glad that I did know how. Thanks, Dad!

1. How to put on my socks. This he learned from John Wooden. First off, you always wear 2 pairs. The first pair you put on inside out, so the seams don't rub on your feet. The second pair absorbs your sweat and keeps your feet dry. You must be very careful that there are no lumps or bumps. Your socks must be absolutely smooth before the shoes go on. I wore my socks like that until I was about 15. I still feel a little guilty when I only wear one pair of socks, and when I do get blisters, I know it's my fault.

Boyfriends

In my life, I have had two boyfriends (Right, Nicole?), but I don't have one now. Here is a list of my top eleven fake boyfriends:
11. Mr. Darcy. He's handsome, he's rich, he's kind of an asshole...what's not to love?

10. Andy Bernard from The Office. Most girls would probably pick Jim, but they just don't know how to have fun in a relationship.

9. Bill Haverchuck from Freaks and Geeks. Just look at that smile!

8. Nick from Freaks & Geeks. He plays the drums. I have a thing for drummers. He romantically recites metal lyrics to his girlfriend.

7. Eric from Undeclared. He works at Copy Town and could make me a pillowcase with his face on it.

6. Stephen Cobert. Date, Do, or Dump: Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, and John Stewart? Dump Conan, Do John, and Date Steve.

5. The Natural. Oh, hey there Robert Redford in baseball pants.

4. Barack Hussein Obama. I'm looking for a man with a body like Barack and a Denzel Face.

3. Justin Timberlake. The way he moves is so hot.

2. Special Agent Fox Mulder. Newsflash: I am actually a huge geek, and nowhere is it more apparent than in my love for the X-Files. I am almost as excited about the new X-Files movie as the Olympics. Call me, Mulder!

1. Indiana Jones. He was my first love. I was four when The Last Crusade came out and I've never looked back. When I was seven or so, it was announced that there weren't going to be anymore Indiana Jones movies. According to my mom, I started crying. The new Indiana Jones movie is more exciting than the Olympics.
